Desire and the Evangelist

We all know the silver suits and sage-colored ties,

the cufflinks and coiffure
that make up the televangelist. 

If you, like me, don’t trust the

snake, you have heard his

whispers over the Fruit in the Garden:

God wants you

Jesus needs you

And you will not surely die—

(now,
watch him crumple to the floor

                                  And tithe.)
